03 — VR Safety Initiative
Elevator Industry VR Safety
Hazard awareness for the elevator trade — practiced, not just presented.
A virtual-reality safety initiative for the elevator industry — putting apprentices inside the hazards they must learn to respect.
Built for the Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program (CEIEP), this initiative brings VR into safety education for elevator constructors and mechanics. Hoistways, machine rooms, and working-at-heights scenarios are practiced in the headset — where hazard recognition is trained through experience instead of slides.
Scenarios designed around real elevator-industry procedures and reviewed with industry educators, built for classroom and training-centre delivery.
Challenge
Elevator work concentrates serious hazards into tight spaces — and new apprentices need to recognize them before they meet them.
Approach
VR scenarios that place trainees inside hoistways and machine rooms to identify hazards, follow procedure, and build safety instincts.
Outcome
Safety education apprentices experience rather than memorize — delivered as part of the industry's own program.
